Hi, I'm Krystal!

Sharing my favorite brunch spot in New York City // An ode to Cafeteria NYC.

If you know anything about me, you’d know that I love to eat. In New York, there are no shortage of restaurants for you to try. You can find something for just about any dietary pattern, cuisine, or flavor preference. But today, I wanted to share one of my tried and true, old faithful restaurants: Cafeteria NYC.

I first visited Cafeteria in high school, for a friend’s birthday dinner. The first item that captured my attention was their Mac and Cheese Spring Rolls. You can imagine my teenage tastebuds were excited because I loved cheese, and I loved fried things. Now if we’re being honest, the Mac and Cheese Spring Rolls aren’t your grandmother’s thanksgiving mac and cheese. Instead, think of this item as a cool twist on Mac and Cheese by making it into a spring roll. Also, it’s best eaten with the smoked gouda dipping sauce. You’ll thank me later.

Another reason I consider this place my favorite brunch spot in New York City, is because they serve all-day breakfast. On the menu, you can find breakfast items such as Avocado Toast, Lemon Ricotta Pancakes, and my favorite: Crunchy Croissant French Toast.

The #Instafamous French Toast

Y’all, if you follow me on instagram @krystalgeorgerd. You know that this French Toast has made an appearance on my page multiple times.

This french toast is encrusted with a cornflake crust, paired with a sweet, fresh berries compote (sauce), and topped with mascarpone cream. At this point, I’ve had this dish every time I’ve visited. And I’m not really a big french toast person, so this says a lot. Most french toasts I’ve had, always end up super soggy. But Cafeteria does this french toast well by making it crispy, yet soft.

I also have my own Vegan French Toast recipe, that isn’t soggy, if you’re picky like me ;). Cafeteria NYC also has lunch and dinner items if you aren’t a big breakfast person. Most of the time I visit, I bring my friends and they always find something to order. During one of my last visits, one of my friends ordered the Crispy Chicken Thigh Sandwich on a Brioche Bun, and it looked pretty good.

I’m thinking for my next visit, I definitely want to try more items from their lunch or dinner menu. I’ll keep you guys posted on IG.

So, are you ready to take a trip to Cafeteria? If you do, tag me on my IG @krystalgeorgerd, and let me know what you end up trying out. I’m looking forward to sharing my next food adventure with you all here soon!
